I just returned to Baltimore last night after a 2-week trip back to Michigan. It was wonderful. The trip was comprised of time in my hometown, West Bloomfield, and time “Up North.” We were surrounded by family and friends the entire time. Our family stayed in Charlevoix, overlooking the infamous drawbridge and water that connects from Lake Michigan to Lake Charlevoix. We took a ferry to Mackinac Island, and visited Petoskey and Harbor Springs. My kids had an absolute blast between the boats, playgrounds, beaches, and biking. The weather was ideal, the lake was calm, and the people were as friendly as can be. The fudge was exceptional, theRead More →

Take a half a pill a day to start,” my psychiatrist instructed me. I looked at the script and it read, “Zoloft.” ZOLOFT?? As in antidepressant medication? As in any medication period? I’m sorry doc, but I was raised to fight through tough times on my own. And no doubt would there be tough times to fight through, but I was not to depend on a pill to assist me. Was IRead More →

It was a 100 degree August afternoon at Old College Field in East Lansing, MI. We had just completed our second training session of the day. As we typically would after practice, we hung around to decompress, stretch our bodies, and finish socializing. As my teammates and I started heading back to the locker room, I thought I heard my name being called. I looked around. “Konheim,” I heard my coach yell again to get my attention, “Come here for a second.” I sensed something unusual as I approached a small huddle including all three coaches. “We are very concerned about you right now. We don’t know ifRead More →
